I went to the Oregon Coast for the first time (that I remember, I was apparently there as a kid). Cannon Beach was the highlight of the trip.
This is a big rock.
It was surprisingly warm.

I managed to spend a few hours in Chicago over the weekend and had a pretty awesome time. It's the first time I've got to really spend any amount of time in Chicago (aside from earlier this year where I got sick half way through my trip and had to head home). Lollapalooza was going on while I was there and I had no idea. I walked along Grant Park between museums and managed to catch almost the entire MGMT set which was audible from pretty much everywhere near the water. Good times.
I did the whole Magnificent Mile thing, and also the Museum stroll though I only actually got in to one because they close early on the weekend (boo). Saturday night I hung out in Wicker Park and had a blast. Such a cool neighborhood and really sweet bars. I hope I come back soon.

For some reason the tourists are tour-izing (see what I did there?) everywhere within five blocks of Times Square this week. Tired of glaring at people gawking and whatever happens to be shining the brightest or fastest I took to 5th Avenue. I took a ton of pictures (like a tourist, oh snap) and thought some of the mannequin photos were pretty funn—or, rather, weird.
The only two stores I actually shopped in were H&M—my new favorite store—and the Apple store which was just a complete zoo. Check out the Figures photoset and my updated New York photoset on Flickr for my short thoughts on individual photos.

Mar1308 new jersey, new york, transit, travel
Let's talk about trains. Let's talk about my rudimentary motor and reasoning skills. Currently I'm on the LIRR from Penn Station heading to Brentwood. This is going well. This morning I needed to go from Penn Station to Secaucus on NJ Transit.
That did not go as well. After spending twenty minutes on the wrong platform and accidently boarding an Amtrack train I eventually figured out where I should be. Finally got on the train but and made it to my stop (which was only one stop away). Stood by the door.
Door didn't open.
Ended up in Newark, had to turn around and finally get off at Secaucus. Did my thing in town and got back to Penn, switched to the LIRR and here I am.
Update: Got to Brentwood without issue. Came back to Brentwood about 5:20 and missed the last inbound train for two and a half hours. Waited forever in the piss-dungeon of a train station for the next train.
Left hotel at 8:20am, didn't get back until 10:30pm.
Shit.
